The One

The OneThe final play in the inaugural Poppy Seed Festival, Vicky Jones’ award-winning hit, The One will be presented at fortyfivedownstairs from 3 December 2015.

A viciously funny new play about a couple trapped in a violent and destructive cycle of co-dependant love and lust, The One was the winner of the 2013 Verity Bargate Award, Soho Theatre’s national competition for the best new play by an emerging writer, chosen out of 800 submissions.

Premiering to rave reviews at Soho Theatre in February 2014, this Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf for the digital generation is 65 intense minutes of sex, violence and snack food, which brutally asks: In the warfare of modern relationships, what are the rules of engagement?

Fire Curtain Co. is the brainchild of Cat Commander and Kasia Kaczmarek who met while studying Acting at VCA. The company encourages the development of new work and offers writers the opportunity to get audience feedback at every stage of script development through workshops, mentorship, and interactive performance events.

“To say The One touches on difficult and controversial issues would be to underplay the writing - this play crashes head into these subjects at full speed.” – Huffington Post UK
