The Container Festival

MUST_The Container Festival 2The MUST Container Festival is a dynamic arts festival returning to Monash Clayton this August. Last year’s festival incorporated over 350 performances & events from 600 Melbourne artists and attracted more than 3000 audience members to the Monash Clayton Campus!

Running until 15 August, for this year’s festival, shipping containers will pop up around campus and be converted into intimate theatrettes and the MUST space transformed into a buzzing ‘Hub’ and lounge bar. These and other surprising venues will be filled with brilliant new music, dance, theatre, visual art, games, interactive performances, poetry, burlesque and more!

The Container Festival is an engine room and a showcase for ground-breaking work of all genres. “It will ignite cultural engagement and expression, foster innovation and provide great, affordable entertainment,” says MUST Artistic Director, Yvonne Virsik. “With varied performances lasting anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours, audiences can design their own festival experience each evening: anything from a few tasters to a non–stop entertainment indulgence.”

Festival offerings include: Melbourne indie bands Red Lantern Colony and Secret Czar; a super-fun drag showcase; cabaret darling Mama Alto in Behind the Sequins – created just for the festival; The PhilosoRAPtors; BJ’s Vinyl Party; stand up from John Dore, David Rose, Anthony Jeannot and Michael Shafar; Tensions – a new work exploring modern relationships which features seven different parts contributed by emerging writers and directed by Joseph Brown; and special appearances by Gale Force and Six Inches Uncut.
