Currently playing at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre to sold-out houses and critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike, the Australian production of The Book of Mormon, last night at the 2017 Helpmann Awards, was announced as the winner of the coveted Best Musical award, while Trey Parker and Casey Nicholaw were also awarded Best Direction of a Musical.
Led by Ryan Bondy as Elder Price and Nyk Bielak as Elder Cunningham, direct from playing these roles on Broadway and across America, they are joined by Zahra Newman as Nabulungi, Bert LaBonté as Mafala, Rowan Witt as Elder McKinley, Augustin Aziz Tchantcho as the General, and Andrew Broadbent in the multiple roles of Price’s Dad, Joseph Smith, and Mission President.
The remaining cast includes: Daniel Assetta, Blake Bowden (Elder Price Standby), Camille Eanga–Selenge, Donell James Foreman, Eddie Grey, Jayme-Lee Hanekom, Phyre Hawkins, Antwaun Holley, Matt Holly, Todd Jacobsson, Jay James-Moody (Elder Cunningham Standby), Justin Lonesome, Mitchell Mahony, Loredo Malcolm, Kieran McGrath (Elder Cunningham Standby), Joshua Mulheran, Morgan Palmer, Elenoa Rokobaro, Joshua Russell, Ryan Sheppard, CoCo Smith, Timothy Springs, Cessalee Stovall, Teddy Trice, and Jamaal Wilson.
Since making its world premiere in March 2011 at New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theater, The Book of Mormon has played 253 consecutive weeks at more than 100% capacity on Broadway. It has broken the house record at the Eugene O’Neill Theater more than 50 times, and set 90 house records at 47 theatres around the US.
The London production opened in February 2013, selling out every single one of its 1225 performances thus far, smashing box office records for the highest single day of sales in West End history. Its numerous accolades globally includes nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre album, and four Olivier Awards including Best New Musical.
Having notched up over 200 performances since opening in January, the Australian production of The Book of Mormon broke the house record for the highest selling on sale period of any production in the Princess Theatre’s 159-year history.
