Suburban Gothic

The Butterfly Club Suburban GothicIt’s Australia Day, January 2017, and Australia is going to Hell… Neo-Nazis in Coburg. Refugees setting themselves on fire. Kyle Sandilands still using a microphone. These are unsettling times…

From the multi award-winning minds that spawned The Beautiful Losers comes the antidote for the War Against Terror generation: Suburban Gothic – a pitch black, R-rated, hilarious creepshow, with all original songs and thrilling tales of suburban horror at The Butterfly Club for a limited season.

Directed by Steven ‘Gatesy’ Gates from Tripod, Suburban Gothic stars Mark Jones and Karlis Zaid, who have won multiple Green Room awards and a Melbourne Fringe award as part of the long-running cabaret trio The Beautiful Losers.

Mark was nominated for a Helpmann award for Best Actor for Goodbye Vaudeville Charlie Mudd for Malthouse Theatre, for whom he has performed and composed, in addition to credits with Bell Shakespeare, Arena Theatre, and years touring Festivals as a performer and musical director.

Karlis’ credits include appearing in MTC’s sell-out season of The Drowsy Chaperone, alongside Geoffrey Rush, National Theatre of Great Britain’s production of War Horse, and he is currently part of Opera Australia’s 2016-17 tour of My Fair Lady, directed by Dame Julie Andrews.

Jones and Zaid are joined by Aurora Kurth, whose credits include The Songs Of Casey Bennetto (Castlemaine State Festival), Take The L Out Of Lover (Malthouse Theatre), Walkabout (Chamber Made Opera) and Little Salons Of Glory (Moira Finucane)
