Audiences young and old will be all smiles when they awake from their Winter slumber as Bonnie Lythgoe Productions presents Sleeping Beauty – A Knight Avenger’s Tale at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre from 29 June, before heading to Sydney’s State Theatre from 13 July 2018.
Sleeping Beauty tells the tale of the wicked fairy Carabosse who curses Princess Aurora to 100 years’ slumber, by a single prick of her finger on her 18th birthday. Doomed by fate, only a Prince’s sweet kiss can break the spell and awaken the sleeping beauty.
Can Princess Aurora’s hilarious best friend Silly Billy and faithful Nanny Tickle help save the day, and who will outwit the evil Carabosse and foil her wicked plans?
Lythgoe has assembled a stellar cast including one of Australia’s favourite and most versatile performers, Rhonda Burchmore as the wicked fairy, Carabosse; with Real Housewife of Sydney star, Melissa Tkautz playing the Good Fairy.
Taking the role of Sleeping Beauty’s father will be English actor Frazer Hines, best known for his role in Doctor Who; along with funny man Kev Orkian, who returns to Australia to play the role of Silly Billy.
Following her acclaimed performance as Mrs Darling & Mimi the Magic Mermaid in last year’s Peter Pan, Katrina Retallick returns this year as Nanny Tickle, relative newcomer and WAAPA graduate Embla Bishop (Oklahoma, Brigadoon) plays Sleeping Beauty, while Daniel Milne (ABC Kids SplashDance) plays Prince Valiant.
Audiences will be transported by the enchanting story, stunning sets, spectacular effects, gorgeous fairytale costumes, fantastic song and dance numbers, hilarious comedy, magic and bags of audience participation.
