Sempre Libera – An operatic extravaganza!

Jye Bryant and Nicole Giezekamp Sempre LiberaAustralian audiences will get a sneak peek of Jye Bryant and Nicole Giezekamp’s new work, Sempre Libera – An operatic extravaganza!, on Saturday 7 March at Penrith’s Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, before it makes its world premiere in New York City!

What happens when Opera meets feminism and equality? Sempre Libera is a fascinating one woman, opera style cabaret theatrical production which explores the physical and psychological destruction and reconstruction of female characters in Opera through a celebration of Song, Poetry and Dialogue.

Women have been ritually sacrificed on the altar of Opera across history, now it is time to hear Her Story. Genevieve weaves the catharsis of a journey where she is our heroine and ultimately her Liberation.

Created by Jye Bryant and Nicole Giezekamp, Sempre Libera – An operatic extravaganza! features costumes by Cliff Corton, and an all female orchestra under the baton of conductor, Natalia Raspopova.

Sempre Libera is likened to where Shirley Valentine meets Andre Rieu and Cirque du Soleil,” said Nicole Giezekamp. “We aim to make waves and controversy, as well as Humour and Love and the beauty of the Classics.”

Two years in the making, the work made its cabaret debut at Claire’s Kitchen at Le Salon in March 2019. Well received by the audience, Sempre Libera has been expanded to now feature a full orchestration by musical director, John Tweed.
