Rhythm & Voice

Taikoz in ConcertIn a never-to-be-repeated special event, a selection of Sydney’s most exciting performers will share the City Recital Hall stage for the first time in the spectacular Rhythm & Voice – a fundraising concert of support for Synergy/Taikoz and Gondwana Choirs on Monday 13 June 2016.

In a direct response to recent funding cuts, and thanks to overwhelming support for the organisations within the arts sector, Synergy/Taikoz and Gondwana Choirs are presenting Rhythm & Voice in a show of solidarity and a celebration of the incredible breadth of work of the two organisations. With all artists generously donating their time and the venue graciously donated by City Recital Hall, 100 per cent of ticket sales will go directly to the two organisations.

Artists appearing with Synergy/Taikoz and Gondwana Choirs in Rhythm & Voice include: musicians from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra; Richard Tognetti and Musicians from the Australian Chamber Orchestra; The Australia Ensemble; The Song Company; Lingalayam Dance Company; and shakuhachi Grand Master, Riley Lee.

Synergy and Taikoz have a proud history and have been instrumental in the introduction of non-western music styles into mainstream and art music practices in Australia. They have commissioned over 200 new works for percussion and wadaiko with many of these works defining percussion ensembles of today, and helping launch the international careers of several leading Australian composers.

Founded by Artistic Director Lyn Williams OAM as Sydney Children’s Choir in 1989, Gondwana Choirs is the leader in Australian choral performance, shaping the Australian sound through the creation and presentation of innovative new work, and providing opportunities to all talented young Australians through world-class training by leading artists.
