RENT to return to Hayes Theatre in 2016

RENT photo by Kurt SneddonHighway Run Productions have announced that those who missed out on seeing RENT (and those that are itching to see it again) will get another chance in 2016 when the production returns to the Hayes Theatre for a strictly limited three-week season in March/April.

Currently playing at Hayes Theatre Co, RENT sold out before it had opened and desperate fans have been calling the box office daily and lurking around the foyer before each performance in the hope that a ticket might become available.

Led by director Shaun Rennie (Cats, Mamma Mia), choreographer Andy Dexterity (Urinetown, Fiddler on the Roof) and musical director Andrew Worboys (Sweet Charity, Truth Beauty and a Picture of You), and a supremely talented young cast of 14, the current production of RENT is one of the fastest-selling shows at Hayes Theatre Co since it began in February 2014 and is enjoying some of the most enthusiastic audience responses to date.

Jonathan Larson’s RENT opened Off-Broadway in 1996 and quickly became a global phenomenon. The show earned Larson multiple Tony Awards along with a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, a distinction not received again by a music theatre work until 14 years later.

Though Larson himself never saw the impact of his masterwork – he died suddenly in the early hours of the very day the show opened to the public – its longevity serves as a testament to the emotional resonance of Larson’s creation and an embodiment of its ever-present message: no day but today.

Tickets for the 2016 return season of RENT are now available online at www.hayestheatre.com.au or by calling the Hayes Theatre box office during business hours on (02) 8065 7337.
