Paul Capsis Live at MEMO Music Hall

Paul Capsis LiveFresh from crawling out of the ancient skin of Quentin Crisp, multi-award winning Australian performer Paul Capsis returns to what he loves doing best – singing tunes in an exclusive three-night season at MEMO Music Hall, St Kilda.

Capsis brings together some of Melbourne’s best musicians under the leadership of Jethro Woodward to present a rock n roll Gothic romp, trawling the dark lyrics of Patti Smith, Tom Waits, Sonny Bono, Lou Reed, Lana Del Rey, Skyhooks, The Doors, Eurythmics, The Suicide and songs made famous by Janis Joplin, Nina Simone, Led Zeppelin, Joan Baez and Ike & Tina Turner.

Revisiting songs from musical theatre shows in which Capsis recently starred – Cabaret and Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets plus some unearthed gems… These songs are remade and delivered in Capsis’ own unique style: a blend of gender bending scorching torch rock n roll.

Musical Director Jethro Woodward has put together a new band for the show – The Fitzroy Youth Orchestra (ahem their tongue is firmly planted in their cheeks) including Dan Witton, Nicholas Murray and Ralph Rehak. Come and experience Capsis up close and personal with a kick arse live band with special guest, Nick Batterham.
