On the Couch with Zoe Komazec

Zoe Komazec AAR On the CouchWho is Zoe Komazec?
I would have to say Zoe Komazec is an easy going theatre loving individual who loves to perform and spend time with her family and friends. I love to dance sing and act and wouldn’t live my life any other way. I love to teach and coach students in the performing arts and have my teaching diplomats in CSTD TD/Jazz, CSTD TD/Tap and AiCD ASSOC.

Myself and my fiancé Matthew Geronimi run a business together called Ignyte Industries, within this we run a Summer School in Adelaide called the Ignyte Summer School. I love to have fun in my spare time and often find myself going bowling, playing mini golf, going for drives or just hanging out at home with my puppy Chino and cat Cally.

I like to be really organised and love to label and colour coordinate everything. I have a big sister Nadia Komazec who is also in professional theatre. She has just finished playing Columbia in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and about to start School of Rock playing the role of Pattie.

My mum Barbie has taught me everything I know and love, I practically grew up at my mums dance studio Barbara Jayne Dance Centre in Norwood. Together as a family we are a very theatrical bunch with my dad working for mum’s studio as well.  We all love to dance even though dad’s not trained he does a pretty great job and we all have a habit talking in lots of different accents and being generally entertaining.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Mmm this is a tricky question. I honestly absolutely love what I do now and have been incredibly lucky to travel to so many amazing places and perform each and every day but I wanted to do anything else I could see myself perhaps being a lawyer or an early childhood teacher.

Who inspires you and why?
My big sister, Nadia Komazec inspires me every single day! She’s currently in School of Rock as Pattie and just finished Rocky Horror as Columbia not to mention all the other amazing shows she’s been a part of. Her dedication and love for the arts and theatre and how talented she is is just so inspiring.

My other biggest inspirations are my mum Barbie Komazec and my dad John. They have both taught me so much in life and I appreciate everything they do for me. What they have achieved in their life so far and what incredible people they are just motivates me to be as good a person as what they are in all aspects of life.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
My biggest thing is staying positive and passionate. One of the most incredible things you experience as a performer is the audience reaction and participation. Being able to move people to tears or scream with laughter is something incredibly special.

If I was going to make a difference in the world it would be to continue to entertain people as long as I live because what is life without a little entertainment. Sometimes life can be so difficult at times and all our cares and worries can build up and becoming very overwhelming. For me when I feel like that, I can belt out a song or dance it out in a studio and feel better.

I think theatre is a fantastic way to escape all the worries in our life and take time to laugh, cry, sing along and have some well needed time off. If I was going to have any impact to make a difference in the world I would do anything to keep live theatre alive so people still have the opportunity escape real life for a moment and be entertained.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I actually haven’t been to many holiday destinations but I have been incredibly lucky to tour to different countries with shows I have been a part of. I’m headed on an 8 day cruise at the end of this year to Noumea, Isle of Pines and Mystery Island – which I am super excited about!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I actually have a list ready to take my cast mates to lots of different attractions. Hahndorf is high on the list, Victor Harbour is second and I would love to take some people to Kangaroo Island. If it’s just a one day adventure I love The Beach House at Glenelg! Any excuse to play Mini Golf, Water Slides and Dodgem Cars I’m there!

What are you currently reading?
At the moment I’ve been reading a lot of renovations and interior design magazines. I’m currently renovating my house in Adelaide and can’t get enough of Grand Designs Australia, Inside Out and Belle Magazine!

What are you currently listening to?
There is such a great playlist on Spotify called Have A Great Day! It features so many genres and era’s of songs, it really makes me have a great day!

Happiness is?
Family. Being away all the time touring with shows makes you miss your family and anytime I can spend with them I am so incredibly happy. I am so lucky to have so many amazing things and people in my life that bring me so much happiness.

What does the future hold for you?
I certainly have specific goals and milestones in life I want to achieve but I’m not sure what to expect in the future. The universe works in a wonderful way so I will continue to work hard, stay positive and enjoy life. I’m hoping to start a family with my fiancé Matt in a few years and continue performing in the industry as much as I possibly can. There are so many shows I would love to be a part of so hopefully the future has some fantastic roles in upcoming shows ready for me to tackle.

Zoe can be seen in Mamma Mia! The Musical which is currently playing at the Adelaide Festival Centre until 18 November 2018. For more information, visit: www.adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au or www.mammamiathemusical.com.au for details.
