On the Couch with Vincent Hooper

Arts Review On the Couch Vincent HooperWho is Vincent Hooper?
I am an actor, a singer, a lover, a brother and son. I know I have a lot to give. I still believe in magic, and I dream with my whole being.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Make more time to catch up with the great people in my life who I don’t see as much any more. We are all so busy, and it is nice to stop and appreciate the loved ones around you.

Who inspires you and why?
My Mum is pretty inspiring to me. She has a joy for life and it beams through her. Honestly, she is like sunshine, she is vibrant and luminous and warms any room she enters. She has all the energy in the world, laughs from the bottom of her soul and has a heart of gold. What’s not to love?.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Be kind. Be generous. If every person in the world vowed to do their best at being kind, the problems we have now would be been blown to smithereens.

Favorite holiday destination and why?
God I love New York. I have been once, and am dying to go back. The shows, the shopping, the bagels, the ladies who pour you coffee in the cafes and ask ‘How’s your day, honey?’. I mean, Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, Broadway – it’s magical. Especially at Christmas time.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I always take people to ‘I Love Dumplings’ on Bridge Road, in Richmond. The best dumplings, great atmosphere, lovely service, BYO wine and there is a bottle shop next door. The bill usually comes to about $20 per head. Perfect!

What are you currently reading?
Currently reading The Fry Chronicles by Stephen Fry. I love autobiographies. I have just finished Oprah’s What I Know For Sure – a very inspiring read, and have Magda Szubanski’s Reckoning, to read next.

What are you currently listening to?
During the day I am either listening to what ever show I am rehearsing or auditioning for, at dinner I listen to old jazz music, and every other waking moment I am listening to Barbra Streisand’s fifty plus records, on shuffle. This is not a drill. I’m obsessed.

Happiness is?
Barbra Streisand once said of success, “Success to me is having ten honeydew melons and eating only the top half of each slice.” I sometimes think that’s what happiness is too.

What does the future hold for you?
My immediate future consists of my little brothers wedding in Perth, Heathers; The Musical in Brisbane at QPAC  (and later in the year at Arts Centre in Melbourne), and Thrill Me at Chapel off Chapel for Midsumma – which I am super excited about. My future beyond that, more performing, more traveling, more loving!

Vincent will be appearing in Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story at Chapel off Chapel from 20 – 31 January as part of the 2016 Midsumma Festival. For more information, visit: www.ghostlightproductions.com.au for details.
