On the Couch with Toni Lamond

Sydney Cabaret Festival Toni LamondWho is Toni Lamond?
Toni Lamond is a veteran performer in Australian Show Business. Born into a theatrical family, she made her first professional appearance 77 years ago, aged 10. She is still performing, although with bodily breakdowns, which prevent her standing upright, she has to sit down to do so.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
If I could stand up, and walk unaided, I would of course do so. But thank heaven I still have my voice, and brain. I would also go the theatre and the cinema, but sitting for more than an hour in an audience is no longer an option.

Who inspires you and why?
Anyone who has a positive outlook, and wants to inspire their fellow man.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would  try to convince people  who  are blindsided  by a stream of setbacks, and feel that there is no point in going on. I’d say: Hang in there, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. NEVER GIVE UP!

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Anywhere in Northern Queensland. Noosa is also lovely.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
To the latest stage show in town, of course.

What are you currently reading?
Run Away by Harlan Coben.

What are you currently listening to?
I don’t listen to the radio much anymore. I’m a great fan of Foxtel. Thank you Brian Walsh.

Happiness is?
Seeing my son Tony Sheldon and his partner of 40 years Tony Taylor.

What does the future hold for you?
The immediate future is appearing at the Cabaret Festival on 14 July, and the Rotary Club Senior’s Xmas Lunch in December. I await with positive hope what the Universe has for me beyond that. I love to be surprised!

Toni Lamond will perform at Showqueen on Sunday 14 July as part of the 2019 Sydney Cabaret Festival. For more information, visit: www.sydneycabaretfest.com for details.
