Who is Todd MacDonald?
I am a father of twin teen girls and currently the Artistic Director and CEO of La Boite. I was born in Canada and have lived most of my life in various states around Australia and currently live in Brisbane.
What would you do differently to what you do now?
I sometimes wish that my parents had stayed in the Canary Islands when I was 4 – perhaps I would be bilingual and have a great tan!
Who inspires you and why?
I am inspired by people who have, despite hardship, been able to maintain an optimism about the world.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I hope I am doing something with the work we do at La Boite – I’m super proud of the shows we make and the artists we work with. Art has the incredible capacity to evolve empathy and allows people to hear and see another point of view without shouting or being violent.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Stradbroke Island. We camp there every year and it’s the place I truly shut down and relax.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I tend to take friends along the Brisbane river from West End through Southbank to Kangaroo Point – it’s a beautiful city and the river is very special – that’s after I take them to La Boite of course – Australia’s only purpose built theatre in the round! (Shameless plug).
What are you currently reading?
Romeo and Juliette – for obvious reasons…
What are you currently listening to?
Sleeping in and hanging with my girls.
What does the future hold for you?
Hard to say – just getting through now…
