A Melbourne based Theatre Director, who is currently directing the Australian premiere of The One by Vicky Jones at 45 Downstairs as a part of Poppy Seed Festival, which opens 3 December 2015.

What would you do differently to what you do now?  
Spend more time in nature.

Who inspires you and why?
Franca Rame. Always Franca. Because she was a kickass theatre maker, feminist, activist and agitator.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Be more like Lauren Singer.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
The sleepy surf town Scotts Head in NSW. My father lives there and I love retreating up there as much as possible.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
Malthouse Theatre, Hosier Lane, the NGV Great Hall and Smith and Daughters. Cos Melbourne is good at Art and Food.

What are you currently reading?
My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante and the play, Hang by Debbie Tucker Green.

What are you currently listening to?
Megan Washington.

Happiness is?
Honesty.

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully lots more Art and Food.

Tanya Dickson is a Theatre Director and graduate of The Victorian College of the Arts; she works predominantly with new writing for the stage. Recent work includes Rice by Michele Lee, National Play Festival (2015) Archimedes War by Melissa Reeves, Cybec Electric MTC (2015), and Co-director on I Still Call Australia Homo, Adelaide Fringe and True North Festival (2015).

Other credits include: Assistant Director to Sam Strong on Private Lives by Noel Coward, MTC (2014), NSFW by Lucy Kirkwood, Red Stitch Actors Theatre (2013), Assistant Director to Mathew Lutton on Dance of Death, Malthouse Theatre (2013), Attempts on Her Life by Martin Crimp, National Theatre Drama School (2013), and Truck Stop by Lachlan Philpott, National Play Festival (2012).

Tanya was Resident Director MKA Theatre of New Writing 2012, Triangle by Glyn Roberts, MKA (2012), J.A.T.O by Vedrana Klepica, MKA (2011), and Talon Salon by Michele Lee, Next Wave Festival, You are Here Festival and Darwin Festival (2012-13). Tanya was nominated for a Green Room Award in 2012 for Best Direction on Triangle.

Direction for Radio includes Going and Going by Michele Lee, Radio National (2015) and The Chair by Michele Lee, Broadcast on Radio National (2014). Tanya is a part of the Women Director’s Program at MTC for 2015.
