On the Couch with Savannah Cassidy Pederson

Savannah Cassidy Pederson AAR On the CouchWho is Savannah Cassidy Pederson?
I hate talking about myself because I feel like I forget every interesting quality I have. I’m a lady who was scorned, and turned that into a funny and empowering piece of theater. I also love Taco Bell and have a cat. I’m an actor, writer, singer, dancer, and freelance choreographer who enjoys hot yoga, bingeing shows on Netflix, and cuddling with my dogs. I am the only member of my family who had any interest in the arts; My mom is a teacher and my dad is a bowler so I am pretty sure they aren’t my real parents and secretly kidnapped me as a child. I’m just a girl from Orlando flying by the seat of my pants and hoping for the best.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would take more risks and be more confident in myself and my skill set, and use every opportunity to empower others.

Who inspires you and why?
I was lucky to grow up in a community where I was surrounded by really strong, badass women. My dance teacher, mom, vocal coach, and other boss ladies in the Orlando scene inspire me daily to build the theatrical empire I’ve always dreamed of. They’re bold, gutsy, and don’t take no for an answer, and I admire that.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
The kind of things I write about are the things nobody wants to talk about. Heartbreak, mental illness, inequality, sexuality… they’re all subjects that seem taboo despite the fact so many people in this world struggle with them. They have no voice because mainstream media doesn’t want to talk about these issues, but I will make my voice heard loud and clear through my writing.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I’ve never travelled before so this is all very exciting! Here’s to hoping maybe Melbourne might be my future vacation spot!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Well, I’m really excited to explore the city, and with some of my absolute best friends who agreed to follow me literally across the world to do the show. I want to visit the beaches for sure, but I’m also really excited to hopefully be able to make it out to Uluru and see those rock formations. They’re absolutely stunning.

What are you currently reading?
The Harry Potter series is always my go-to. Also, if I’m in the mood to destroy myself emotionally, Looking for Alaska by John Green is always my first pick. (Also if they make a movie, I’ll sell my kidney to play Alaska. Just in case anyone out there is looking.)

What are you currently listening to?
As a choreographer and dance teacher, I’m always finding new music to create combinations to. I’m currently working on an original performance art piece that will premiere in November when we get back to the states. Some great songs I’ve found for that are Comes in Waves by Psychologist, Youngblood By 5 Seconds of Summer, and Heartache Fetish by Young & Sick.

Happiness is?
A shredded chicken mini quesadilla from Taco Bell. Add avocado ranch to it. Your life will be changed. You’re welcome.

What does the future hold for you?
The beauty of all this is that at the root of it all, I literally have NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING. So at this point, I’m excited to take on anything life sends my way!
