On the Couch with Sarahlouise Younger

Sarahlouise Younger AAR On the CouchWho is Sarahlouise Younger?
Questions like this always stump me. A part of me hopes I never have the answer to this question as I am always evolving and finding different ways to answer it. The one consistent throughout has been a burning desire to maintain my creativity in a world that constantly wants to extinguish it.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Take my time. I feel my internal clock is still in the rhythm of a Young Creative, constantly fighting and hustling and saying Yes to any and every opportunity and I don’t feel that is the energy I want to maintain as a 36-year-old.

Who inspires you and why?
LIZZO!! The girl got it going on! Plus-Size, Brown Skin Diva whose very presence triggers our own insecurities. I recently had an audition and had her album playing in the morning and my entire outlook of who I was and what I was going to bring into the room changed. I spent all of my teens and twenties apologising for myself in front of so many casting tables filled with people who looked nothing like me. Times are changing… I’m here for it! Oh, and my Mum… that goes without explaining. Love you, Mum.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Hold myself accountable. To quote America Ferrera “I like everyone around me believed that it wasn’t possible for me to exist in my dream as I was. And I went about trying to make myself invisible. What this revealed to me was that it is possible to be the person who genuinely wants to see change while also being the person whose actions keep things the way they are.”

Favourite Holiday Destination and Why?
For someone who loves to travel, I am a big fan of the “staycation” – My house, my family, my music playing, good conversation some whiskey… best holiday ever!

When Friends come to town what attraction do you take them to and why?
Loch Ard Gorge in Port Campbell along the Great Ocean Road. Not only is it beautiful but the sad fate of the ship The Loch Ard and the 200-year-old cemetery combined with the backdrop of the wild ocean does make for a lovely, melancholy day.

What are you currently reading?
To be truthfully honest I am currently reading “how to contour my face” which will be immediately followed by “ANTM (America’s Next Top Model) contestant exposing the truth about Tyra Banks”… and it was YouTube … so not reading.

What are you currently listening to?
Benjamin Clementine. Go and experience his story and music for yourself… you will not regret it!

Happiness is?
Not wishing you were someone different.

What does the future hold for you?
All my hearts desires… and possibly a hangover come the closing night of Top Gun! The Musical.
