On the Couch with Sage Godrei

Sage Godrei oncWho is Sage Godrei?
A Sydney actor and writer who makes sense of the world through producing experimental films and theatre. I like to find connections in the chaos and beauty where there seems to be none.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would love to stop seeking approval or apologizing for my differences. I would also learn a healing art, like acupuncture or kinesiology. I suppose it’s never too late to focus the imagination in more ways than one.

Who inspires you and why?
Salvador Dali. He was a true showman and never ceased to thrill the masses not only with his paintings, but also with his personality and stunts. I imagine meeting Dali would be like entering a new world where nothing was what it seemed. I think a phenomenon like Dali transcends good marketing – it’s more like a paranoiac-critical metho

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I’d let the people drink for free and pay to go to the bathroom… then I’d make investment in the arts mandatory for everyone earning over $150,000. I hate to see money sitting in banks earning interest when they could be fostering ideas and projects to build communities and expand thinking. I love unified projects where arts and environment or arts and sciences meet.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I love visiting America – it’s so bombastic and big, everything is on a magnified scale compared to what I’m used to.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The Taronga Zoo to Chowder Bay scenic walk for the views, Blue Mountains/ Conservation Hut for the prehistoric nature and any of the art gallery openings in Paddington, Chippendale, Newtown or Marrickville for the culture and the Capitol Theatre for it’s old world glamour.

What are you currently reading?
This Changes Everything by Naomi Klein

What are you currently listening to?
Dorothy Ashby’s Afro-Harping – I like that groovy-retro sound.

Happiness is?
Mind over matter, if you don’t mind it doesn’t matter.

What does the future hold for you?
More of the same, I can’t ignore the cycles of life – when you find a good thing “shtick” to it.
