On the Couch with Rodrigo Sanchez

Rodrigo Sanchez AAR On the CouchWho is Rodrigo Sanchez?
I’m Rodrigo Sanchez – one half of Rodrigo y Gabriela. I’m a Mexican guitarist and songwriter.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Had I not been injured in my teens, I would have become a professional soccer player.

Who inspires you and why?
So many people, it depends on what field you mean? In music – Carlos Santana, Vicente Amigo, Metallica, Jimi Hendrix, Maynard James Keenan. Beyond music, people who have tried to make a difference – Harriet Tubman, Fridtjof Nansen, Gabriela Mistral. We did an album – 9 Dead Alive – about people who have inspired us.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would encourage everyone to become vegan.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
India, for the sense of spirituality, and the kindness of the people.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Vegan treats at La Raiz de la Terra, and how to prepare them at Eco-vegana.

What are you currently reading?
Breaking the Jump:The secret story of Parkour’s high flying rebellion by Julie Angel.

What are you currently listening to?
Villains – the new album by Queens of the Stone Age.

Happiness is?
Being onstage with Gabriela, feeling lucky enough to be playing to appreciative audiences all over the world.

What does the future hold for you?
I try to focus on living in the present, but in practical terms; writing songs with Gabriela for our next album.
