On the Couch with Philip Quast

Philip Quast - photo by Kate WilliamsWho is Philip Quast?
One of Australia’s best loved and most internationally recognised performers. Born on a dusty turkey farm in Northern NSW – the voyage to dusty stages of hallowed theatres all over the world is inspired.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Hate myself less when I stand up for what I believe in. Wish I could do it with wit rather than anger.

Who inspires you and why?
Calm people. Because they are calm.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Have no private schools.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Antarctica. Before it’s gone and I regret not going when I had the chance.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
My home. So I can cook for them and look into their eyes. They are the attraction.

What are you currently reading?
The next episodes of the TV series I’m doing, Antony Beevor’s The Second World War and Jorie Graham’s Collection of poems From The New World… in that order.

What are you currently listening to?
Everything Dean Martin. How did he make it sound so easy?

Happiness is?
The way the dog greets me when I come home.

What does the future hold for you?
Don’t know. That’s why it’s the future. Actually that’s wrong….Death. So I do know.

Philip stars in Uncut with Anne-Maree McDonald at the piano in the Dunstan Playhouse – Adelaide Festival Centre on Monday 10 June as part of the 2019 Adelaide Cabaret Festival. For more information, visit: www.adelaidecabaretfestival.com.au for details.
