Who inspires you and why?
Samantha Dodemaide is definitely a massive inspiration for me. I worked with her on Violet two years ago, and the passion, tenacity and determination she has as a performer is just amazing.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Big question! I think starting with small things that can affect the world in a positive way will ultimately make a big difference in the long run. I’ve recently converted to using a KeepCup for my takeaway coffees, so preventing that unnecessary waste is a simple but impactful change to the environment. I also donate to Share the Dignity – which is a nonprofit organisation that provides homeless women with sanitary products – something that, as a living essential for women, can quite often be forgotten or overlooked.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
I absolutely love San Francisco. It’s the perfect balance of bustling city and pockets of suburban quietness… maybe also because it reminds me of Melbourne a bit. Plus, the iconic views from the top of the hills are just incredible!
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Not being a Sydney native, I’ve had to improvise and do Google searches for when friends DO come to visit, but I think my favourite place so far is The Grounds of Alexandria – it’s just beautiful, and so unique to anything I’ve ever seen. The Harbour Bridge is a spectacle as well though – Melbourne can’t quite top that one!
What are you currently reading?
I just finished re-reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. I think every performer should read this book! It’s a bit of a bible, if you will, for creative living.
What are you currently listening to?
Anything Regina Spektor – she’s my go-to for every mood. Other than that, I’m relistening to Hamilton – as is in the spirit of doing a Lin-Manuel Miranda show!
Being able to do what I love, surrounded by the most amazing group of people that uplift and support each other.
What does the future hold for you?
I have no idea! Hopefully, more roles just as rewarding and exciting as Nina Rosario are on the horizon, but we’ll just have to wait and see!
Luisa is currently starring as Nina Rosario in Blue Saint Productions’ In The Heights at the Hayes Theatre Co. until 15 April 2018. For more information, visit: www.hayestheatre.com.au for details.
