On the Couch with Lisa Pavane

Lisa Pavane AAR On the CouchWho is Lisa Pavane?
I am a wife, mother, former ballerina and now Director of The Australian Ballet School.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would delve more deeply into developing my yoga understanding and practice.

Who inspires you and why?
New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern! She is compassionate, loving, courageous, strongly principled and an inspirational leader.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Advocate for the importance of the performing arts. The arts provide opportunities for critical reflection, collaboration and creativity and a means for engaging the mind, body and emotions in human expression. Participants and audiences alike need the arts now more than ever.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Any stunning water destination as I am totally in love with the sea. A few favourites include Kings Beach Caloundra, The Greek Islands and recently a trip to Vanuatu where we swam at the Blue Hole on Efate Island. On my bucket list is the Maldives!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The Mornington Peninsula – there is so much to enjoy – stunning coastlines, lazy beachside destinations and waterfront restaurants, scenic views, green hinterlands and the wonderful Red Hill.

What are you currently reading?
Flourish by Martin Seligman and Grit by Angela Duckworth; after that Braving the Wilderness by Brené Brown.

What are you currently listening to?
Some fantastic podcasts by The Institute of Positive Education on cultivating well-being for individuals and communities, and regularly blasting from my living room on a Sunday afternoon, The Greatest Showman.

Happiness is?
Sunday morning long walks with my husband Robert and our two Cavoodles, Misha and Belle and seeing my daughter and son growing into amazing young adults navigating their lives – Happiness is family!

What does the future hold for you?
Continue to ensure that The Australian Ballet School balances the rigorous demands of professional training for our students with a unique and nurturing environment where creativity and excellence can flourish. I look forward to seeing our graduates dancing with The Australian Ballet and other significant dance companies around Australia and the world, and training the stars of the stage today to become the next generation of teachers and artistic leaders of the future.
