Who is Kaylah Attard?
Kaylah is a 23 year old Melbourne girl who has been performing on the musical theatre stage since the age of six. She has not only performed in musicals such as Strictly Ballroom and her current show Velvet, but during her VCE exams was offered a lead vocalist role for Royal Caribbean which enabled her to perform all over the world at the tender age of 18.
What would you do differently to what you do now?
I can’t really imagine myself doing anything but perform but I love watching crime shows so if I had the brains I would love to be Forensic Scientist but unfortunately that’s not where my skills lie.
Who inspires you and why?
There is one person who has always inspired me and is the reason I am where I am today and that is my Performing Arts teacher Miss Renie Ann Martini. I started with her when I was two years old and she has taught me everything I know. She treated every lesson like an audition and still to this day, when I’m on the stage or in an audition, I hear her voice in my head telling me to “use my face”, or “stretch my feet”.
What would you do to make a difference in the world?
If I had the power I would try and eliminate terrorism, but I don’t so just bringing happiness to everyone I meet and treating everyone equally so that hopefully it will make a small difference to someone.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Canada, loved the scenery, hiking in the Canadian Alps and their coffee.
When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
My favourite thing to do in Melbourne is source out the best ‘avo smashes’ for brekkie and Melbourne has lots of them. I also love to getaway to the Peninsula in the summertime.
What are you currently reading?
Marcia Hines’ Autobiography
What are you currently listening to?
Hamilton soundtrack and Whitney Houston.
Being on stage singing and making everyone smile.
What does the future hold for you?
I’m hoping to land a role on West End and eventually release an album.
Kaylah is currently starring in Velvet at The Palms at Crown Melbourne until 9 July, before heading to Sydney’s Roslyn Packer Theatre: 26 July – 6 August 2017. For more information, visit: www.velvettheshow.com.au for details.
