On the Couch with Kaarin Fairfax

Kaarin Fairfax Arts Review On the CouchWho is Kaarin Fairfax?
An Artist, Actress, director, mum, mentor and lover of magic and Fairies.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I’m really inspired by my life. I’ve made plenty of mistakes, but I regret nothing and I am happier and healthier in every way than I have ever been.

Who inspires you and why?
I am constantly inspired by people I work with in the Arts. The great courage and tenacity to push on and shine through in hard times. My glorious family burst my heart with their talents and desire to make the world a better place. They are doing it!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Being an artist enables me to heal and connect people to themselves through story and experience. I am a defender of the environment and I care deeply about truth and fight for respect and unity in all areas of creation. I would definitely call myself an Actor-vist.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Leleuvia Island Fiji. This is a small tropical Island sitting in the middle of the Pacific. It takes 20 minutes to walk around. You can snorkel off the beach and the coral regeneration project I have been privileged to watch over the last 10 years has produced a spectacular underwater paradise. There is no electricity and the hermit crabs scuttling along the floor of the bure make me very happy. It is a simple paradise.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Always the theatre, ‘cos I love it and Melbourne has a great rotation of shows, possibly the Peninsula Hot Springs, ‘cos I’ll use any excuse to soak in a hot tub outdoors, or the Great Ocean Road, as it is stunning. I’m a sucker for a live music gig too, cos music nurtures my soul.

What are you currently reading?
Scripts at the moment. I am part of a book club but I don’t seem to get time to get to the book. Scripts, Scripts, Scripts. I love them!

What are you currently listening to?
Podcasts mainly. I love Uplift and Gregg Braden talking about science and spirituality. My sister Jess Fairfax on PBS, All our stories and I love that. My daughter’s band Saatsuma is on high rotation at the moment as she is about to release an album and I have access to the pre release, as I should.

Happiness is?
Working with glorious creators. Walking in nature. Being with my family and sharing yummy food. Sitting on the balcony looking at the stars. So many things make me happy, I am happy right now.

What does the future hold for you?
Who knows, but that is the great spell being an artist weaves. The possibility of the magic in every moment. Bring it on!
