On the Couch with Justin Smith

Justin Smith AAR On the CouchWho is Justin Smith?
Sydney born actor. Husband to actor Sophie Gregg. Father to two rapidly growing boys. And an onstage father to four Billy Elliots.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
No regrets. I’ve been a lucky person. I have a wonderful family. I was lucky to be born in Australia and not one of so many places in the world that face incredible challenges. I’ve been able to work in my chosen field and support my family as result. I’ve got a lot to be thankful for.

Who inspires you and why?
Well it’s no surprise to say Greta Thunberg. It’s pretty alarming though that we need a 16 year old to open people’s eyes to the ever increasing catastrophe that is climate change.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Make wars illegal. I would develop a drug to cure people’s idiocy. Introduce a national law that every roof of every house in Australia has solar. Stuff like that!

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Somewhere I’ve never been. I haven’t travelled as much as I’d like but I’ve. Loved being able to show my kids other parts of the world. Hopefully we can do more of that soon.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
So many to choose from. Particularly if its summer. I’d take a ferry to Manly and have a picnic at Delwood Beach on the Harbour or a walk around to Shelly Beach. The Bondi to Bronte walk is brilliant too of course.

What are you currently reading?
I love John Le Carré? So I’m currently on to Absolute Friends. Not his best but still excellent.

What are you currently listening to?
Always bouncing from one thing to another on Spotify. Particularly loving Aussie artist Montaigne – she’s fabulous. Chicago jazz vocalist master Kurt Elling is always close by!

Happiness is?
Being with my wife and boys. Cooking for family and friends after a swim at the beach!

What does the future hold for you?
Billy Elliot, Billy Elliot, Billy Elliot
