On the Couch with Jennifer Sarah Dean

Jennifer Sarah Dean AAR On the CouchWho is Jennifer Sarah Dean?
Wow… straight in!! I am a Theatre Director based in Melbourne currently working on Festen with Play Dead Theatre. I am also the Artistic Director of the Melbourne Shakespeare Company, I also write and very occasionally act. Oh and I play the Ukulele!

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would love to write fantasy fiction but I just don’t have the skill, time or patience.

Who inspires you and why?
My Grandmother she is an intelligent, hardworking, passionate person who cares deeply for people around her.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I strongly believe we should “be the change you wish to see in the world” and it is our daily choices and actions which make a difference.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I love travelling around Australia. I am originally from the UK so and even though I have been here nearly 4 years, I still get incredibly excited by the beautiful, vast, varied country.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I take them to see the street art in Melbourne – Hosier Lane and Centre Place and any other spots I have stumbled across recently this would be followed by brunch with good coffee.

What are you currently reading?
Soul of the Fire by Terry Goodkind. I love stories and have recently started listening to fantasy audiobooks, it makes travelling so much more exciting!

What are you currently listening to?
I’m listening to a lot of 1920’s Jazz at the moment to get some inspiration for my next show. Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Bix Beiderbecke.

Happiness is?
Being with the people you love.

What does the future hold for you?
I have such a busy year. I just got engaged so wedding planning will start as soon as Festen is over, I am also going to the UK next month, then directing Romeo and Juliet for MSC at the end of the year!

Jennifer is currently directing Festen for Play Dead Theatre at the Rippon Lea Estate Ballroom until 22 July 2018. For more information, visit: www.playdeadtheatre.com.au for details.
