On the Couch with Jen Der

AAR JEN DER - photo by Mark GambinoWho is Jen Der?
Jen Der is a a female drag queen with a lot of sass, vulnerability, whack and full of expression.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Stop thinking and just DO IT! If that actually happened I would be a doctor by day, stunt driver by night who speaks fluent in Spanish and Polish and I would be living in Calabria, Italy. No biggie!

Who inspires you and why?
Yana Alana, Betty Grumble, Jim Carrey, Divine, Sasha Velour, Thierry Mugler, Jean Paul Gaultier, Brooke Candy, Kat Von D. Their art is relentless, raw and expansive. They are fuel for my FIRE!

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Run for Minister for Women in drag and empower people around world about equality. Create education programs for schools and inject more focus on art. We have so many amazing artists in this world that would impact greatly for our future! They need to be seen and be able to make a living off their passion! Miss Jen Minis-Der for Women will get things done!

Favourite holiday destination and why?
If Berlin, Hanoi and Tulum could combine together – that would be the perfect holiday destination for me. A combination of deep art, deep culture, and deep beach action. I love variety in a holiday destination.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I would go on a joyride around the Albury/Wodonga region and show them the nearby towns and amazing scenery they all have to offer. Then have a massive carb load in a brewery or a lovely National Park. This region has so much to offer – Albury itself has everything you need and it’s all an arms length away. ‘Peak hour traffic’ is a walk in the park here! And we are surrounded by water, art, green hills and growth. On ya Albury/Wodonga!

What are you currently reading?
I’ll Never Write My Memoirs – Grace Jones – what a human! Love her.

What are you currently listening to?
I’m currently in a whirlwind of genres at the moment. I’m listening to L7 for the badass fierce gritty girly rock, and then when I want to tone it down for the eve, I’m listening to SBS Chill for some worldly cul-cha!!

Happiness is?
Within… and within, I also see glitter, sushi and Jim Carrey.

What does the future hold for you?
I’ll be stepping onto US soils and touring America next year and planning to make the US my home! I plan to start learning the piano or guitar and form a band called Jen Der and The Pronouns and get into music a little more.
