On the Couch with Gareth Reeves

Gareth Reeves AAR On the CouchWho is Gareth Reeves?
Just another Hot Mess, late for something, looking for snacks, dissolving and reforming his identity daily.

What would you do differently from what you do now?
I’ve never wanted to do anything else, it’s both frightening and comforting. Maybe I would have written something.

Who inspires you and why?
People that dedicate themselves to the advancement of others. People with a passion, it almost doesn’t matter what, but passion inspires me no end.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Keep opening my heart and not become another curmudgeonly conservative old man. Lead my children into questions that will do the same. Try to really listen to people and to the earth more.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
New Zealand for the variety of landscape and people or The Whitsundays on a sailboat.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
We would eat our way round Melbourne’s cafes and restaurants, wander the NGV and Buxton Contemporary Art Gallery, catch a play and bar hop.

What are you currently reading?
I’m reading a poetry anthology, The Five Invitations, a book about what death can teach us and my script.

What are you currently listening to?
Lots of podcasts! I just listened to Edith Bowmans ‘Soundtracking’ and have been mainlining Warren Ellis film scores.

Happiness is?
A perfectly baked slice of Sourdough with a knob of butter, coffee, sunshine, my little family and a day off. Probably some mischief later.

What does the future hold for you?
With any luck, many many performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child!

Gareth stars as Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child which recommences at the Princess Theatre from 25 February 2021. For more information, visit: www.harrypottertheplay.com for details.
