On the Couch with Frances Rings

Frances Rings photo by Tiffany ParkerWho is Frances Rings?
Frances is an award-winning Aboriginal dancer and choreographer, known for her work with Bangarra Dance Theatre. She has recently been appointed as Head of Creative Studies at NAISDA Dance College.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would have more children!!! I didn’t realize how much I would love being a Mother, and how children bring so much goodness to your life. I would love more than 2 (though not sure if my Husband would agree… 🙂 )

Who inspires you and why?
Different people at different times of my life inspire me. At the moment it’s my bestie Ningali Lawford who just finished performing in the Sydney season of The Secret River by Sydney Theatre Company. A tough role but one where she guides you, holds you and cries with you through some of the darkest moments in Australian history.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would try to do what I teach my children; To be respectful, to show gratitude and most of all to be proud. Any simple act that shows integrity makes a difference.

Favorite holiday destination and why?
I love Mexico! The culture, colours, food and language all make my spirit soar!

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
I live on the Central coast and there are so many great things but I would probably take them on a bush walk in Bouddi National Park to an amazing beach called Maitland Bay. Then maybe swing by an amazing local brewery called Block n Tackle in Kincumber for a cheeky paddle of craft beer and some delicious tapas!!!

What are you currently reading?
Anything Dr Seuss with my 7 year old.

What are you currently listening to?
Ryan Adams 1989

Happiness is?
Trusting the universe and all it has planned for you.

What does the future hold for you?
That depends on the universe…
