On the Couch with Elana Stone

Elana Stone Arts Review On the CouchWho is Elana Stone?
These questions are so existential! Perhaps I could just copy/paste my tinder profile here: I am a short, funny, glasses wearing Velma look-alike who sings and plays various instruments. I am also a cafe junkie, swimmer, music teacher, dog enthusiast and lover of the humble frisbee. I am looking for great chats, fun adventures and epic cuddles. Keen to have dates and meet new mates. Boom! Let the likes RAIN!

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I would like to be doing everything I am doing now but also have a degree in neuroscience. Haha, I know – I seriously missed the boat there but I am very interested in the brain and body and how it works.

Who inspires you and why?
Dolly Parton, Brian Cox, Bette Midler, my family, my bandmates, my manager, my housemates, my students – pretty much everyone. My life is full of dead set legends.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Oh, you know – the usual: try and listen to people and be positive and supportive generally. I would also implement the shift to renewable energy, allow same-sex marriage, end the holding of refugees at detention camps like Nauru and Manus Island, end war generally while I’m at it, end Donald Trump – oops, how did that get in there? There are so many things – that’s what becomes overwhelming I guess. This is just the tip of a fast-melting iceberg. *Elana has a panic attack and loses consciousness.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Holiday? Yes please 🙂

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
I love the Royal National Park – there are so many natural wonders down there. But then again, Bondi is awesome too!! Sydney is a saucy minx. Newtown is my hood so obviously I would be taking them to the nice cafe spots around there.

What are you currently reading?
I’m between books right now but I want to read Rosie Batty’s book, A Mother’s Story – my bandmate Georgia just finished it. Apparently it’s pretty incredible/harrowing.

What are you currently listening to?
Margaret Glaspy’s album: Emotion and Math. Damn good american singer/songwriter/guitarist – indie rock with honest lyrics and a great voice.

Happiness is?
a hot bath
a house call to a good friend
a long walk with a good dog
a meaningful smooch or cuddle with someone you love
scoring a goal at soccer
mum’s spaghetti bolognaise and
touring with my band: All Our Exes Live in Texas.

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully all of the above plus heaps of cash.

Elana and All Our Exes Live in Texas will be performing at the Lorne Festival of Performing Arts (FOPA): 2 – 4 September 2016. For more information, visit: www.fopa.com.au for details.
