On the Couch with Don Bridges

Don Bridges Arts Review On the CouchWho is Don Bridges?
Actor, director, teacher, musician.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
If I had my time over, I would have worked harder at my musical talents and singing. Maybe turned up to more dance classes.

Who inspires you and why?
The elite amongst us. I hate the way the word elite has become something to shy away from. We love elite sports people, but we denigrate the arts for being elitist. How dumb. Surely we should all aspire to be elite at whatever we do.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I am on the committee of the Victorian Actor’s Benevolent Trust. We collect money to help out performers, and crew members who have fallen on tough times. It is surprising how often it is the younger ones in the entertainment industry, who need our help.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
I love Ireland. The history, the scenery, the Guinness, the people, the music, and above all, their humour – lifts my heart and soul.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Federation Square and in particular, ACMI. The ever changing exhibitions are stunning. Oh and the MCG – it is iconic.

What are you currently reading?
Terry Pratchett’s Eric.

What are you currently listening to?
Billy Thorpe live at the basement, and every James Taylor album ever.

Happiness is?
A challenging, character and a fulfilling script. Travelling with my love.

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully more of the same. I like to be surprised!

Don is currently appearing in Amedeo Astorino’s demens at the Bluestone Church Arts Space, Footscray:15 – 24 July 2016. For more Information, visit: www.trybooking.com for details.
