On the Couch with Catherine Alcorn

Catherine Alcorn AAR On the Couch SOHWho is Catherine Alcorn?
Besotted mum to our one year old, Jackson, a singer, actor and producer.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
Anything that helps others, really. I’d go back to Uni to extend my Diploma of Education into a Counselling degree and work with underprivileged youth.

Who inspires you and why?
Anyone pushing their own boundaries and taking risks to further themselves.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Empathy is incredibly important. Having the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes to understand where they’re at is a huge step in making a difference. We have the power to make a difference in the world every single day simply by approaching everything from a place of love.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Anywhere in country Australia. My Dad grew up on a farm in Kyogle, NSW – so the country’s in my blood and it’s where I’m at my happiest. I think that’s why I love touring regional Australia so much. The folks, the fresh air and the space.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take then to, and why?
It’s always the Sydney Opera House. It still takes my breath away every time I see it or see a show there. It’s a very special place. You feel the magic as soon as you step inside.

What are you currently reading?
Marilyn in Manhattan: Her Year of Joy by Elizabeth Winder.

What are you currently listening to?
Lemonade by Beyonce (forever top of my list). I’m also loving All My Exes Live In Texas When We Fall and Muddy Magnolias Broken People.

Happiness is?
Gratitude and being with my family.

What does the future hold for you?
Lots of exciting things! I’m currently working on a new show with Phil Scott, and more international tours which I can’t say too much more about at this stage – but stay tuned!

Catherine presents her critically acclaimed show, The Divine Miss Bette at the Sydney Opera House: 23 – 26 August 2018. For more information, visit: www.sydneyoperahouse.com for details.
