On the Couch with Bonnie Anderson

Bonnie Anderson Arts Review On the CouchWho is Bonnie Anderson?
I am a regular girl, I grew up in the country with a big, loving and very open minded family… I grew up fast and knew exactly what I wanted out of life. I never take things too seriously and always have a laugh at myself. Music has always been my number one and always brings the most joy out of me! I’m lucky to have had people around who support and believe, because big dreams are always achievable, you just have to work hard and believe.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I like this question, really made me think. The older I get, the more I learn about myself and the world I am creating around me. I just always tell myself to stay positive… I make plenty of mistakes and have done things musically and personally that could have been different but i grow from those things and usually takes me in a better direction.

Who inspires you and why?
My mum has always inspired me, I grew up singing with my mum. I loved watching here on stage and with people. She always knows how to make people feel special and I wanted to be that! I always listened to a lot of soul and rock growing up, I loved Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke, Ed Sheeran and Justin Timberlake – are some I look up to now.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Accepting people for who they are. There’s a lot of hate that goes on in the world and I just don’t get it! Be kind and spread the love!

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Somewhere tropical… Because where I am from is the opposite to that haha! I love feeling sun kissed. I haven’t been everywhere in the world yet, but I want to visit as many countries as I can. I find it amazing that there is a whole world out there waiting to be explored.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Honestly, when friends come to town the first place I like to take them is my home… It is always pretty busy at home, we have a big family and I have lots of nephews now, they are so much fun. We love a good sing along, lots of loud laughter and jokes and of course good food!

What are you currently reading?
I have The Secret beside my bedside table at the moment. I have never been much of a reader, I always loved movies. I also really love quotes, I find them so inspiring, and I love how everyone can relate to them differently, I recently received a book called BLOOM by Beau Taplin – he is an amazing writer!

What are you currently listening to?
I am listening to some amazing music on spotify at the moment, Valis Alps, NAO, Nyne… They are all awesome. My good friend Tash Sultana just released her new EP also and its mega!

Happiness is?
Family and love.

What does the future hold for you?
More music, more experiences, new people, new relationships, more writing… The journey goes on. I am now 22 and I’m in a really good place, creating a lot of new stuff, and excited to be a part of Godspell and do my first ever musical! It’s going to be so much fun!

Bonnie makes her theatrical debut in Godspell Reimagined, playing for a limited season at Arts Centre Melbourne from 25 October 2016. For more information, visit: www.artscentremelbourne.com.au for details.
