On the Couch with Alex Hooper

Alex Hooper AAR On the CouchWho is Alex Hooper?
I am an actor from Bristol in the UK, currently puppeteering Joey in the UK & International tour of War Horse.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
If I wasn’t an actor, I would probably be in the health and fitness industry. I love finding new ways of being healthier and passing these on to others.

Who inspires you and why?
Tom Brady. Despite not having the most natural athletic ability, he worked his way to the top of his sport and has stayed there for twenty years.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would want to help reverse the growing issue of mental health, by finding a way of reminding people that we weren’t built to constantly worry but to be present. As the quote goes, “Be present, and life will take care of itself”.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Cornwall. Can’t beat it (when the weather’s good).

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
The local jazz club. Because I was raised listening to jazz, and I think it makes people feel good.

What are you currently reading?
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. It’s a book about staying present.

What are you currently listening to?
The music of John Paul White.

Happiness is?
Health, family and having the confidence to be you.

What does the future hold for you?
Wherever staying present takes me.

Alex stars in the UK & International tour director of War Horse – which plays Melbourne’s Regent Theatre from 10 January, before heading to the Sydney Lyric Theatre from 15 February and Crown Theatre, Perth from 24 March 2020. For more information, visit: www.warhorseonstage.com.au for details.
