On the Couch with Alana Tranter

AlanaTranter Arts Review On the CouchWho is Alana Tranter?
I am a singer, actor, mover … they call it a two-and-a-half threat, and the co-founder of Company Eleven, an independent theatre company based out of Melbourne. I am also an Aunty to two, soon to be three, amazing little humans, a health insurance consultant and a brunch addict.

What would you do differently to what you do now?
I know it’s cliché but there’s nothing else I would rather do. It’s a really difficult industry, so if there was anything else I wanted to do I would be doing it.

Who inspires you and why?
So many people! But at the top of my list would be my parents. They never apologise for who they are, they continue to grow and learn, they listen, and they live their lives with fun and love at the forefront.

What would you do to make a difference in the world?
I would rid the world of hate and prejudice and fill it with love and understanding. Also I would give everyone a buddy like you have in primary school so no one ever feels alone or unwanted and unloved.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
New York! I can see a Broadway show any day of the week and get Mexican food on almost every street at any time…what more does one need on a holiday?! But honestly, I believe a holiday should re-energize you and this city does that for me.

When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to, and why?
Brunch, brunch and more brunch. And then if there’s time perhaps a trip to the moonlight cinema (if it’s the right time of the year) or the peninsula hot springs.

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Carole Bayer Sager’s book, They’re Playing Our Song: A Memoir.

What are you currently listening to?
Isadoré! Check her out – she has just released her debut EP, Fight or Flight –  it is awesome!

Happiness is?
Christmas time at home with my family.

What does the future hold for you?
The immediate future holds our production of They’re Playing Our Song which will take me through to October. After that I have no idea what the future has in store, but here’s hoping it includes lots of amazing gigs, a small fortune, and all of the cheese!

Alana is starring as Sonia Walsk in Company Eleven’s production of They’re Playing Our Song at The MC Showroom, Prahran: 6 – 7 October 2017. For more information, visit: www.themcshowroom.com for details.
