Nocturne

NocturneWhen the world dissolves into darkness, shadowy forms morph into looming, ominous creatures and the stuff of dreams emerge.

Nocturne features lyrical and evocative works by artists who draw upon the romanticism and mystery of the night presenting different perspectives of nocturnal themes and showcases how the night inspires the imagination.

“The inspiration for Nocturne was sparked by the exquisite drawings of Arts Project Australia artist Fulli Andrinopoulos”, says Guest Curator Kirrily Hammond.

“She is a prolific artist whose recurring motif of a singular circular form struck me as a celestial object and seen together, her many drawings could be a miniature universe.”

“I was also drawn to evocative drawings of twilight landscapes by Alan Constable. The work of these two artists lead me to explore a nocturnal theme more broadly.”

The works in Nocturne rely on the viewer to interpret their sometimes ambiguous meanings and while they may explore some universal themes, they are also quite personal and introspective.

Nocturne features works by Arts Project Australia artists with contemporary Australian artists including: Fulli Andrinopoulos, Dionne Canzano, Alan Constable, Leo Cussen, Emily Ferretti, Peter Graham, Brent Harris, Kelvin Heffernan, Jess Johnson, Nhan Nguyen, Cameron Noble, Warren O’Brien, Caleb Shea, Jelena Telecki and Terry Williams.
