Mixology with Mini Marilyn has everything you could possibly want – it’s sassy and brassy, campy and cute with a whole lotta spice!
Elizabeth Evans plays Mini Marilyn and believe me when I say that she is a powerhouse talent. As soon as she sets foot on stage and opens her mouth, you are blown away by her flawless voice and commanding stage presence. She sucks you in and makes it impossible to look away.
Mixology with Mini Marilyn is brimming with potential – the character and vocals are strong, the dance numbers are on point (who doesn’t love a flawless tap number) and the back up dancers are surprising treat without being distracting.
The show, however, is let down by the story. Stronger direction or collaboration with a dramaturg would iron out the disjointed elements of the performance and streamline the through line. I dare say that the venue’s limitations may have contributed to the static delivery – someone please get Evans into a Spiegeltent so she can shine!
Fingers crossed that Evans brings this joyous performance back for a return season.
