Martenitsa Choir 30th Anniversary Retrospective Live

Martenitsa-Choir-photo-by-Karen-SteainsCelebrating 30 years of performing, recording and broadcasting, Sydney’s all Female Bulgarian Choir, Martenitsa will present a retrospective concert at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres on Saturday 6 March 2021.

The unique choral sound of Sydney’s all female choir Martenitsa will perform Bulgarian traditional choral repertoire along with ground-breaking original repertoire created especially for them by Australian composers including the Aria Award-winning world music ensemble Mara!

In Retrospective, the choir will trace three decades of thrilling audiences across Australia and the globe with an all-star line-up including the voice of Bulgarian soloist Silvia Entcheva, plus the virtuosic playing of jazz royalty Sandy Evans, Paul Cutlan and Lloyd Swanton and world music icons Llew and Mara Kiek of the Mara! band.

Retrospective will showcase two acclaimed original musical suites – Sezoni and Tra Parole e Silenzio – composed by and performed with Mara! These two ground-breaking suites feature texts by Bulgarian/Australian poet Stefan Kozuharov and Italian poet Eduardo Di Giovanni.

Martenitsa Choir 30th Anniversary Retrospective will be live streamed and performed in front of a live in-theatre audience, offering audiences the opportunity to choose how they see the show.
