Lamb (a new play with songs)

Red Stitch LambA new Australian play full of lyrical longing and humour, Red Stitch presents Lamb by multi-award-winning playwright Jane Bodie and featuring original songs by Mark Seymour in a world premiere season from 21 November 2018.

A generational saga of an Australian sheep farming family, Lamb is a story of the guilt of those who left and the lost desires of those who stayed behind. It is a story of the land, and of lies told and secrets kept to protect those we love – and to stop them from leaving us.

Bodie, whose work has been performed worldwide from London to Australia, returns to Red Stitch Theatre to premiere her new play, Lamb, in collaboration with lyricist and composer Mark Seymour.

Lamb is one of two new works by Bodie developed through Red Stitch’s INK program and presented in association with Playwriting Australia through Ignition. The commission follows Red Stitch’s highly successful presentation of Bodie’s This Year’s Ashes – which premiered in Victoria to rave reviews in 2014.

Led by veteran director Julian Meyrick (The Realistic Joneses, Dead Centre), Lamb features new Red Stitch Ensemble member, Emily Goddard (This is Eden), with guest actors Simon Maiden and Brigid Gallacher (Merciless Gods).

“Bodie’s writing is both funny and stunningly lyrical… honest human and true.” – Irish Times

“[Seymour’s] songs grow on you like a landscape, from the back of a flatbed, sun on your skin and the sky vast above you.” – Daily Review
