Glyn RobertsLa Boite Theatre Company have announced they have lured one of Melbourne’s brightest artistic talents to Brisbane: Glyn Roberts will be La Boite’s new Program Manager, leading La Boite Indie and managing a range of other programs, workshops and masterclasses, including the new Playwrights-in-Residence program.

Glyn comes to La Boite direct from his role as Creative Director of MKA Theatre for New Writing, one of the most productive in Australia and currently Melbourne Writers Festival’s ‘Theatre in Residence’. The company won a 2012 Green Room Award for Special Contribution to Melbourne Independent Theatre.

La Boite Artistic Director David Berthold said: “Glyn will be a tremendous boost to the life of La Boite and to the vitality of theatre across the city and beyond. It says a lot about La Boite’s reputation that we’ve been able to recruit such top talent.”

Glyn has produced around 20 full productions, designed and built seven site-specific venues, coordinated nine tours to national locations (including to two major international theatre festivals), organised two international tours, co-produced two readings seasons of new Australian work in two separate European capitals, and set up about 75 public readings of new Australian plays.

He has also organised numerous writing and performance creation events for Deakin University, University of Ballarat, VCA, Melbourne Theatre Company, Melbourne Writers Festival, Emerging Writers Festival, Courthouse ARTS, Brisbane Powerhouse and several of Melbourne’s best secondary schools. He holds a Masters in Writing for Performance (VCA) and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Monash University).

Glyn said he was looking forward to contributing to the direction of La Boite, as well as connecting with independent theatre makers in Brisbane.

“There is something special happening in Brisbane,” he said. “The minute I heard about the role I knew it was something I had to do. It combines all my skills as a producer, an educator, a dramaturg and artist into one fantastic role.”

Glyn will relocate from Melbourne and commence as Program Manager on Thursday 26 September. For more information about La Boite Theatre Company, visit: www.laboite.com.au
