A psychedelic science-fantasy road trip that confronts the apocalyptic state of current affairs and celebrates the liberating potential of genre fiction, James Macaronas presents Kirk Dangerous Kills the Prime Minister at The Butterfly Club until 27 April 2019.
When larger-than-life secret agent Kirk Dangerous falls out of his own universe, he finds himself stranded in ours – and the only way to get home is to kill the Prime Minister. Pursued by the police and the mysterious Nevermen, Kirk is your guide on a harum-scarum hike into the weird depths of the Australian unconscious.
Written and performed by James Macaronas and directed by Ellie Woods, Kirk Dangerous Kills the Prime Minister promises a night at the theatre unlike any other – taking in comic books, ghost stories, magick and metamorphoses to ask – “If our world is sick, what price the cure?”
“I want to challenge not only the prejudices of the current government, but the complacency of the public – this notion that we can’t fix the world,” says Macaronas. “Kirk is a character that absolutely believes we can. The question is whether or not we’re prepared to believe him.”
