Katie Noonan new Adelaide Fringe Ambassador

Katie Noonan by WilkRenowned Australian songstress and four time ARIA award winner Katie Noonan has been announced as the official Ambassador for the 2014 Adelaide Fringe.

Katie has entertained Australian and international audiences in a career spanning over 15 years and now joins the largest arts festival in Australia to help spread the word about the success story that is Adelaide Fringe.

“Katie Noonan is one of Australia’s most versatile and talented singers and has had a long relationship with Adelaide Fringe over the last 14 years,” said Greg Clarke, the Director and CEO of Adelaide Fringe.

“She is a true artist in every sense of the word and is a natural choice to be this year’s Fringe Ambassador. Adelaide audiences flock to see her whenever she is in town and as singer, songwriter, producer and a wonderfully generous and charismatic person she is the perfect role model of a very successful Fringe artist“.

“I would also like to make special mention of the incredible job last year’s Ambassador Paul McDermott did to raise the profile of Adelaide Fringe around the country. As one of the Fringe’s great supporters Paul will continue to promote the Fringe and we look forward to hopefully seeing him here in 2014.”

Katie Noonan first took Australia by storm with the indie-pop band George and has since released a number of solo albums. Her career includes roles as a performer, singer, songwriter, pianist and entrepreneur. She has taken audiences on sublime excursions of jazz, pop and classical music and been credited with six platinum selling albums.

In a 2013 pole, Katie was also voted into the top 20 Australian vocalists of all time, sharing the honour with names such as Michael Hutchence, Neil Finn and the Bee Gees.

“I’ve played at Adelaide Fringe almost every year since my first Fringe in 1999. In my first year we did three shows at the East End Exchange Hotel with my band George,” said Ms Noonan.

“I remember sleeping on the floor with a host of fantastic carny folk at a house we were all sharing whilst in town! I thought the Adelaide Fringe was this fantastical and truly wonderful world full of awesome folk.”

“There is a beautiful sense of community at Adelaide Fringe as well as a wonderful sense of discovery. There is an innate sense of open mind and heart. You can wander around and discover world-class music, street theatre, circus, comedy and share that experience with like-minded folks – heaven!”

“My favourite Fringe moment would have to be premiering my song “Special Ones” at the Fringe in 1999 and thinking it felt like a significant moment for me. The song was still untitled and I asked the audience to help me name it!”

And why does Katie Noonan keep coming back to Fringe?

“Because its a truly magical experience! A host of truly awesome folk sharing stories, songs, physical feats, dance, ukulele, banjo, dobra, nudity, Tap dancing, beat poetry, juggling, comedy, butoh, theatre…You name it! Most of all though, it’s about the fantastic audiences that make the Fringe what it is.”

Katie will undertake a national promotional tour as part of her Fringe Ambassadorship in addition to performing her special new show in the 2014 Adelaide Fringe.
