Featuring eleven of Australia’s leading ladies, celebrating the incredible Jerry Herman song book, The Production Company presents as its final show for the year, Jerry’s Girls at Arts Centre Melbourne from 21 November 2015.
Created from a concept by Larry Alford, Wayne Cilento and Jerry Herman and featuring the music and lyrics of Jerry Herman, Jerry’s Girls features an outstanding cast of Australia’s leading ladies (and man) including: Rhonda Burchmore, Kirby Burgess, Virginia Gay, Chelsea Gibb, Nancye Hayes, Brent Hill, Debora Krizak, Josie Lane, Claire Lyon, Natalie O’Donnell, Silvie Paladino and Christie Whelan Browne.
Herman created Jerry’s Girls to showcase his best loved songs from his greatest musicals including Hello, Dolly!, I Am What I Am, Wherever He Ain’t, Mame, Before The Parade Passes By, Bosom Buddies, I Won’t Send Roses, Put on Your Sunday Clothes, Tap Your Troubles Away and Time Heals Everything.
Helpmann Award winning duo Director Dean Bryant and Choreographer Andrew Hallsworth, with Musical Director Mathew Frank are shaping Jerry’s Girls as a celebration, with each Leading Lady plays a version of herself in this fun and intimate look at the backstage mayhem and onstage razzle dazzle of show business.
Considered one of the most successful songwriters for musical theatre of his generation, Jerry Herman composed the scores for the hit Broadway musicals Hello, Dolly!, Mame, and La Cage aux Folles. Other credits include: Milk and Honey, Dear World, Mack & Mabel, and The Grand Tour.
Herman has been nominated for the Tony Award five times, and won twice, for Hello, Dolly! and La Cage aux Folles. In 2009, he received the Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, and was a recipient in the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors for his contribution to American culture.
