Chris Murphy has announced the unveiling of the Murphy Theatrical Group and their first production, INXS – The Musical confirmed to be in development. Murphy is returning to his roots in theatre by re-forming his parents’ company, which was established 55 years ago and created and paved new roads into the live musical market.
Murphy Theatrical Group have chosen INXS – The Musical to be their debut production, set to open in late 2016. Whether the musical will premiere in London, Vegas or Australia has not yet been announced, nor the creative team working on it.
“It has always been my vision to present INXS’s amazing songs in a stunning theatrical environment as a testament to this bands incredible catalogue,” says Chris Murphy. “My philosophy has always been that there is no better calling card than success, so taking our newly acquired exclusive INXS Musical rights to the world stages and making it a success is our clear policy and mandate.”
Chris Murphy and INXS band member, Tim Farriss are working closely together on INXS – The Musical. It is not the first time they have partnered together; both were Executive Producers on the TV mini-series, Never Tear Us Apart which became one of the highest rated shows of the year on The Seven Network.
The band’s albums have also continued to top the charts with The Very Best as the number one selling album by an Australian artist in 2014 and six albums and nine tracks in the ARIA Top 100.
“As a live band, INXS has performed thousands of shows in every type of venue, all over the world. INXS music was born to be performed. I am very excited to bring INXS’ music to the theatrical stage in a way it never has. I want this to be a theatre experience that people will never forget.” says Tim Farriss.
