I am Not a Unicorn!

UnicornDarebin Arts Speakeasy presents I am Not a Unicorn! by Emma J Hawkins as part of Melbourne International Comedy Festival for a limited season until 18 April.

Come and get lost down the rabbit hole with Emma J Hawkins, where Alice is probably drunk playing cards with Goldilocks and the three bears. Come meet some of the locals, John the train driver (an average bloke), the grand dame and the rare horned beast.

A ridiculous tale about trolls destroying the world, eating bananas and finding love in the local IGA over the freezer counter. Laugh, cry and everything in between with this giant of a performer, with her bag of tricks bigger than herself!

Emma was a recipient of Australia Council for the Arts Artist with a Disability Funding in 2014 which has led to the premiere of her autobiographical show, I am not a Unicorn! Directed by Maude Davey, Designed by Gaelle Mellis, with writing contributions by Melissa Reeves and Matthew Whittet.

Emma J Hawkins has been seen in numerous theatre productions, most recently playing Heidi Hood in Windmill’s Big Bad Wolf. She also played Fleck in Love Never Dies (nominated Green Room Award), CircusOz, King Lear, The Maids and Volpone (Sydney Theatre Company).

Emma has created and performed in her own award winning dance piece One More Than One through Atypical Theatre Company, and her alter ego The Divine MissEm has been involved in many events, festivals, cabaret and burlesque shows. Emma sees performing as a way of challenging herself and audiences alike to think outside the square… her first memory on stage is of chasing a boy with a frying pan!

Warning: this show contains a short-statured person defying stereo-types, swearing, wielding knives and chopping onions.
