Electric Cabaret / Crap Music Rave Party

Tomas FordConsistently one of our best exports, overachiever Tomás Ford hits the 2015 Melbourne International Comedy Festival with not one, but two events this year – Electric Cabaret and Crap Music Rave Party.

The all crooning, all crowd-baiting, all electronic-music-button-tweaking madman Tomás Ford brings his bona-fide cult hit, Electric Cabaret to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for its’ premiere season at the much-loved Tuxedo Cat.

Just scoring a Weekly Fringe Award at the 2015 Adelaide Fringe Festival, Electric Cabaret is a unique experience that mixes the darkest depths of cabaret with pulsing synthy pop songs, David Lynch-inspired video projections, and Tomás Ford’s one-of-a-kind brand of demented showmanship.

Not satisfied that that’s offensive enough, he’s backing it up with the always sold out Crap Music Rave Party for four nights only at the European Bier Café.

Think hand-held disco lights, boy band ballads, glostick-friendly trance, new romantic nightmares, and hands in the air. Sold out every night at Edinburgh Fringe, Adelaide Fringe and Fringe World, he’ll play any request… so long as it’s crap.

Tomás Ford’s notoriety has spread like a dirty secret since 2003, building a cult-like following around Australia through a relentless performance schedule and 14 interstate tours. He’s picked up three WAMi awards, a Best WA Cabaret Award, released two albums, a billion EP’s and a cassingle, joined the Big Day Out’s national Lily-world tour, terrified Birds Of Tokyo fans as their national opener, collaborated with Malaysian popstar Ze!, and released a string of popular videos.

His brain melting live shows see him smashing cabaret into live electronic beats, video projections, myriad costume changes and engaging in a push-pull of love and hate with his audience. It’s a lot to take in; crowds generally start the show confused and amused, before they give themselves over to the insanity of the experience.
