Soothplayers are proud to bring Completely Improvised Shakespeare to The Butterfly Club stage this Christmas season. Using nothing but their wits, wills, and a title provided by the audience, the improvisers will present six all-new Shakespearean plays over the course of their season.
Comedy? Tragedy? History? From epic battles to bawdy brawls and devastating romances, Soothplayers provide all of the dramatic flair that theatregoers have craved for more than four centuries. Whether you love the Bard or love to loathe him, these spontaneous renderings of his unmistakable style will surely teach your torches to burn bright.
After a sell-out preview run during the Melbourne Fringe, the troupe received rave reviews and left audiences begging for more. Each production is a completely new work, replete with an on-the-spot prologue in iambic pentameter, an epic plotline, and even improvised mandolin accompaniment.
Soothplayers performers include veterans of two of Melbourne’s premier improvisation troupes, The Improv Conspiracy and Impro Melbourne, as well as graduates of Victorian College of the Arts and Chicago’s world-famous iO Theatre. If this weren’t enough, the troupe is also under the direction of Green Room Award winner Andrew Strano.
Soothplayers’ Completely Improvised Shakespeare is a truly epic feat of comedy genius, and the perfect last hurrah with friends before all are whisked away to family Christmas responsibilities.
