After extensive seasons in North America, Europe and Hong Kong, American contemporary dance company MOMIX will present the highly anticipated new production Botanica exclusively at Arts Centre Melbourne.
One of the best known dance companies in the world, MOMIX’s remarkable company of dancer illusionists, have been presenting work of exceptional inventiveness and physical beauty for over 30 years.
Based in Washington, Connecticut, the company has been celebrated for its ability to conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humour and the human body.
Beautiful, enthralling and inspired by the forms and patterns of nature and the science of plants and flowers, Botanica follows the rhythms of the seasons, the changing shape of life on earth and the passing of a day.
Set to an eclectic score ranging from birdsong to Vivaldi, nature’s changing imagery is revealed in MOMIX’s signature illusionary style. Capturing a universal sense of wonder, the endlessly renewable energy of the company’s superb performers enhanced by spectacular costumes, exquisite projections and puppetry will delight both adults and children.
The production of such visually arresting show requires a top notch creative team including artistic director and founder Moses Pendleton and associate director Cynthia Mann, America’s most innovative and widely performed choreographers and directors for over 40 years.
Designer Michael Curry, a master of puppetry and kinetic theatrical design has worked as production designer for Cirque du Soleil, Lion King, Disney and the Metropolitan Opera as well as for directors Julie Taymor, William Friedkin and Robert LePage.
