Blue Love

Shaun Parker Company Blue LoveA quirky, character-based work is a multi-media, physical theatre comedy: accessible, challenging and enormously entertaining, Shaun Parker & Company presents Blue Love at selected venues as part of a National Tour from August to October 2017.

Award-winning Australian choreographer, Shaun Parker, infuses Blue Love with intense physical theatre, film and dance – a poetic and satirical take on the clichés of pop culture, romance, coupledom and suburbia.

From a fantastic place where TV soap meets art-house film, Glenn and Rhonda Flune take the audience in search of the perfect relationship, parodying the lip-service given to love and its incarnations. Blue Love is inspired by famous works of art, theatre, music and film; all of which deal with the concept of love.

Blue Love features a pulsing score of popular songs about love and heartbreak that will strike a chord with everyone, including: Stop In The Name of Love, I Will Survive, Don’t Call Me Baby, I Want To Know What Love is, Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, You Sexy Thing, Linger, Love Is A Battlefield, and many more.

“I was inspired by how romantic love runs rampant through all art forms, both popular and high-art, and provides such juicy thematic fodder for artists and audiences alike,” said Shaun Parker. “It’s a topic that everyone knows only too well. In romantic love the cliché becomes the poignant and vice versa.”

“Our characters, Glenn and Rhonda believe that they are the perfect couple, and in believing so become the tenuous, sometimes fabricated, sometimes real storytellers of Blue Love. They and their living room become the canvas for our story as they reference film, dance, text and song in playing out their relationship.”

“Blue Love is funny, lyrical, surprising and mischievous – an elevating work, vivid with ideas and shimmering with skill. It’s dance, it’s film, it’s satire, it’s absurdist – a zephyr of cool cleverness. Shaun Parker is a creative force to be reckoned with.” – The Advertiser (Adelaide)
