Bert Newton joins The Rocky Horror Show

Bert Newton editorialIt has been announced that beloved Australian theatre and television icon, Bert Newton will play the Narrator in the Sydney season of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show.

Bert is currently starring as Vince Fontaine in the national tour of John Frost’s production of Grease, and has previously performed on stage in Wicked, The Producers, Annie, The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz.

The new Australian production of this iconic musical, which received critical and popular acclaim during the sell-out seasons in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne earlier this year, will play a limited season in Sydney Lyric Theatre from April 2015.

In the coveted role of Frank N Furter will be television and theatre star Craig McLachlan, who won the 2014 Helpmann Award for Best Male Actor in a Musical for this performance. Further cast members will be announced later this year.

“We are both thrilled and a little bit nervous to have the great Bert Newton play the Narrator and dance the Time Warp with us,” said Producers John Frost and Howard Panter.

“With Craig and Bert leading the Rocky Horror cast, this is sure to be a wild and sexy night out. Sydney theatregoers should give themselves over to absolute pleasure before madness takes its toll!”

Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show will play the Sydney Lyric Theatre from 11 April 2015. Tickets go on sale from Monday 27 October 2014. For more information, visit: www.rockyhorror.com.au for details.
