Announcing the Sydney Myer Creative Fellows Alumni Grant

Vernon Ah Kee editorialThe Sidney Myer Creative Fellowships are one of the most generous and visionary Fellowship programs in Australia. Announced annually, each Fellow is awarded an unrestricted grant of $160,000 over a two year period. The Fellowships are not tied to any specific outcomes. Only mid-career artists are eligible.

The Sidney Myer Foundation is delighted to announce the Sidney Myer Creative Fellows Alumni Grant. Bringing together all 37 past and present Fellows, the Sidney Myer Creative Fellows Alumni Grant is calling for expressions of interest.

The grant will bring together two or more Fellow Alumni in the creation of a new work for public presentation. It is also expected that they will work with a presenting partner. The grant is valued at $70,000.

“This is an exciting development for the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship program,”says Carrillo Gantner AO.  “We are inspired by the possibilities of Fellows working together.”

“Given that Fellows are drawn from a variety of art forms and from all over Australia, many would not have had the opportunity to meet and certainly not the opportunity to work together.  This new Alumni Grant creates these opportunities and we, as a community, stand to gain a great deal from their collaborative efforts.”

To be nominated for a Fellowship, artists and thought leaders must be within seven and fifteen years into their creative practice and meet two criteria: outstanding talent and exceptional professional courage. They are open to artists and arts managers across the entire spectrum of the visual, performing, interdisciplinary, new media and literary arts.

The Fellowship program, which commenced in 2011, is one of the many initiatives of the Sidney Myer Fund that supports and enriches the cultural life of Australia. Since 2011, 37 Creative Fellowships have been awarded to a wide range of artists and thought leaders.
